Tokyo hosts Spanish Wine Sommelier Competition 3rd EditionOn the 28th September the Hotel Century Haytt Tokyo held the final phase of the Spanish Wine Sommeliers Competition in its 3rd edition.This event, organised by ICEX and the Spanish Foreign Trade Agency in Tokyo, aims to spread the reputation and quality of Spanish wines in the exquisite Japanese market.The product is enjoying increasing representation in the Asian country.The competition, for which initially 108 Japanese sommeliers entered, reached its final phase with only five participants, who after a series of long theoretical and practical tests, demonstrated their deep knowledge of Spanish wines.Knowledge also shared by the jury, which boasted the company of, among others, the chairman of the Spanish Sommelier's Associations Union, Juan Muñoz, and his Japanese counterpart, Kazuyoshi Kogai. First prize was awarded to Kazuto Sakurai; sommelier for the Spanish restaurant "Bodega Santa Rita" located in Tokyo, and second prize to Tetsuzou Lee, sommelier for the Hotel Imperial.As well as receiving a trophy from the Spanish Sommelier's Associations Union and two boxes of Spanish wine donated by Japanese importers, the winners will have the opportunity to travel to Spain in November to see some of the major bodegas. They will be accompanied by four journalists from local wine trade publications
